I got the itch to modify one of my Seiko divers.  I thought a nice set of orange and white Plongeur hands would look great.

I decided to try a "lesser known" Asian merchant who was advertising orange and white Plongeur hand sets for $20.  As some may know, this is less than half the cost of an identical set from Bill Yao.

Below are pics of the hands as advertised along with what I received.  I'm a bit dissappointed with the color of the orange on my minute hand.  It looks more orange-red, and is definitely not flourescent or even bright in color.

I've also attached a pic of my Sea Angler under the exact same lighting conditions as the hand set I received.  I want that bright orange color like my Sea Angler!

So before I drop $45 on Yao's hands, can anyone tell me if I can expect a brighter orange color than what I received?  Is there anyone else who sells what I'm looking for?

If not, can anyone tell me if it is possible to have my minute hand painted a brighter orange?

Thanks for your time

Before I'd drop another $45 with MKII, I'd contact Kent Parks and ask him how much to paint and relume exactly as you want.

I got a reply from Kent Parks today.  The good news is that he can perform my request of repainting and reluming my minute hand exactly how I'd like it.

The bad news is that his minium shop charge is $65.  Ouch!  I guess I'll contact Bill Yao and explore his possibilities unless there is another source for repainting and reluming my minute hand.

Who was the "lesser known" asian merchant?  There are 1 or 2 I can think of that sell what you are looking for, and stand behind what they sell.  If it's not the right color, I would think you could get an exchange.

I have a set on my Black Monster that is from an asian merchant, and it's pleanty bright orange:

In fact, it's as bright as my EcoZilla (sorry...slightly different lighting makes the Zilla look a little washed out):

Topher1556 - You and I bought our Seiko hands from the same Asian merchant.  Why does your set of hands look awesome and mine like a bloody stool sample?

Great question.  After two e-mails I still haven't received an answer from him.

I'm just going to chaulk it up to experience and buy from better known sources in the future.

I'll just consider myself lucky then.  Sorry yours didn't work out.  You could always resell the hands, and only take a little loss.  Just make sure to explain the color of the hands.  I'll bet there is a buyer out there that won't care all that much.  That'll take some of the sting out of the Yao hands ;).
