I like kinetic.  Yes, the power reserve on that newer model should be around 6 months when fully charged.  There are kinetics that can be put into a sleep mode and last 2-3 years on a full charge, then resume to the correct time when 'woken'.

It's a neat hybrid of mechanical and quartz technology.  And, for those that think it has no 'heart' there are (if I remember correctly) more moving parts in a kinetic than a mechanical.  Something I learned from a friend: "...and when the microgenerator spins it does so at supersonic speeds when engaged by the rotor hand6.gif."  That's right, the microgenerator is spinning at speeds faster than the speed of sound!  That by itself is pretty cool (to me).

And to post again that friends words from another forum: "Yep, its still relative motion between coils and magnets but many years and patents in the field of low power electronics went into the development of the kinetic movement, which also made the Spring Drive possible."  So the research in Kinetics were what made Spring Drive possible.

That's some serious engineering.

Final thoughts: "Most collectors do not like quartz, because they lack "soul". Problem is, this "soul" is crafted today not by artisans, but designed on and cut by the same mass of wires and silicone found in quartz movements. That's right, Autocad and CNC."

So...I like quartz.  I like Kinetic.  I also like automatics.  I like watches period.

Hi, my name's Topher...and I'm a watchaholic. Bouncy.gif
