Was just looking at some watches that have a swiss cl 888 auto movement in it.  Are these any good?  What is their track record?  Thanks for any insight.

OldeCrow, tell us how you really feel, don't hold anything back!

OK then here goes!
It's a Chinese sea-gull movement anyway you color it. It's a piece of crap too, the only saving grace is that the Miyota will directly replace it and usually works a bit better.

Dono how those "As seen on TV" jerkoffs get away with calling it Swiss but rest assured it is 100% Chinese!

goofy

Why OldeCrow how do you know the Miyota will directly replace it?

Well since you asked...

I got tired of my Chinese FairyTale.... er... um... I mean Swiss Legend having epileptic seizures with the second hand and having heard that the Miyota would replace the 888 in the zodiac's I decided to try it out for myself and wouldn't ya know it it was a perfect fit and no more seizures too!!

Yeah... these movements have shown themselves to be problematic. And as of late their "Swiss" origins have been put into question, so why bother?

If OC says it's crap... it is crap!!

I guess I am the only one who has been having good luck with this movement....it runs smooth and is much more accurate than any of my Miyotas and it hacks which to me is a big plus!....it is also owned and manufactured by George J. Von Burg who is a well known Swiss manufacturerhand6.gif

....it may be based on a Seagull movement but if it says Swiss Made on it ....it can't be anything else imho and is a great alternative with the situation of ETA and Selitta ....it is a very cost effective solution in comparison.watch2.gif

The only issue I have with 1 of mine is the Crown is a bit Sticky, not sloppy as in

CROWN WOBBLE, but is sticky feeling when screwing back down, other than that IM happy with its time keeping ability.

I've not had a problem with my Zodiac now going on a year. I think that these movements could be a big player in the coming years due to the sell of Selitta to Rolex and after ETA quits selling their movements. There will be a pretty good sized void out there that will need to be filled.
