My mother-in-law is asking for help in buying a watch for boyfriend. I've sent her a few ideas that I thought were great for him (handwinds and automatics) but I think he's pretty particular and thus I have since received these specifications from her:

-leather strap

-shiny SS

-black face

-battery operated

-not a chrono

-in the $500 range

I know most people here aren't big in to quartz, but I'm sure you all would still have some good recommendations.

Thanks for your help

Do you think he'd want a 'busy' watch like a chrono, or something plainer with just, say, the time and date???

personally I would buy him a Boschett Reef Ranger with black dial....I know it is a automatic with eta 2824-2 but for $500. and Swiss Made you will be pressed to find a nicer watch in that price range NIB imhohand6.gif

I'd recomend something from Citizen. They all sorts of designs and colors and with Eco-Drive he doesn't have to worry about changing the battery

Although it was my original recommendation, the Reef Ranger won't work - it HAS to be a leather band.

Give him one of these and a strap: toon1.gif

Lot's of choices at the big O. Sort by price... I only grabbed these two as examples... I would aim for Swiss Quartz and opt for a sapphire crystal.

Three brands to recommend: Accutron, Hamilton, Tissot.

All should have something in the $500 range that would make an excellent gift. All are available online or in most malls (Canada and U.S.). A nice conservative choice would be the Hamilton Jazzmaster Quartz. It is available from $320 to $500 online. It features an ETA Quartz movement, sapphire crystal and a nice strap. It is available in a black dial, silver dial and other combinations. Automatic versions are available too if you choose to go that route.

I guess she changed her mind on the chrono.

...... now, about that Raymond Weil........
