I have a bit of a quandry. My son graduates from college in 2 years and I'm sure you all may be wondering why I'm even concerned about this now. I guess because I like to plan ahead and I see other expenses coming down the pike concerning my son..ie; honeymoon, new house etc. The other reason is that it incorporates a discontinued model of watch and will become increasingly difficult to find a new one in years ahead. Two years ago I gave a Seastar 660 quartz (silver) to my son and he wears it all the time, he must really like it. A jewler has one new Seastar 1000 (blue) they'll sell me for $565.00 and I may be able to talk them down from that a little, perhaps $530.00. My wife thinks we should get him a premium set of golf clubs for his graduation and I'm not opposed to that because my son loves golf. But, I'm a watch guy and something tells me he may be expecting something in the way of watches from me. As a gift... I feel better to buying from an AD, I know you can get them on Ebay for around $350.00. Now the other option is...and I know there's some attitude towards them but it would be a TAG. Why? well.. he's young, his degree is business and TAGs are the respected brand in that crowd..which is fine with me, it's that generations thing. But.. new TAGs are more expensive. The Tissot and TAG are really the only to brands that will mean something to him so other brands are out. So here it is... Option A- the Tissot and a set of clubs..or Option B- a TAG Heuer and that's it. Thanks, ....next week I'll ask your advise on how to mend a relationship with a sisters-in-law:?

OK, I say Tissot and the clubs. Even though Tissot is part of SWATCH Group (holding my nose), you get a lot of bang for the buck. Don't get me wrong, I love TAG. And they know how to make a watch and run a business as well as any. But I really think they are way overpriced for what you're getting. As for watches in the business world, yes Tag is respected. But after years of drinking the Kool Aid myself, the truth is NOBODY cares what your're wearing except for yourself. I am sadly realizing that as I have 14 watches that I wear while the CEOI of my company wears a Pulsar and the President uses his cell phone exclusively. With that, I say Tissot and golf. if there is a slight chance at another brand, go Victorinox Swiss Army- best bang for the buck going out of all the majors!! ~QTE

Yep - Tissot and the clubs. That way he has a fine watch, and a sport to play while he is waiting for you to buy him the house... :D I have seen some bezel paint flaking isues on well-used Tissots which I have never seen on other relatively high end watches, so that might be something that others wish to chime in on. TAG is a great brand, but are we talking the large size special caliber chronometer model, or another model? And of course, if you want to give him just one TAG watch that will cover all the bases - what about the the Monaco square 69's - one of which is on that bay as item number 390020616106 (pics stolen with apologies to the seller). Bit pricey, though... ![]() Just givin' you some ideas... and yes, I realise that for the price of the suggested 69'er you could get the Tissot, some good clubs, and a brand new Ferrari... Either way - he is a lucky young man to have either of the alternative gifts you propose - and I wish him well with his graduation! Cheers! IanM hand6.gif

I say get him the clubs and the Tissot. If he enjoys golf and watches, he can't lose!

The TAG would be an Aquaracer Auto., I think divers are the best built and most cover both work and leisure, although that sure is a groovy lookin' one Ian. And, at the bargain basement prices homes are now... I suppose I could buy him a house.:P I don't think the younger crowd appreciate well-built watches as generations before them did. But, there are a few that they do see as special, Rolex and TAGs and now because the hip-hop bunch discovered them, Breitlings. If he was going to law school this wouldn't be a tough decision at all...I'd already have my order in for an Explorer II or a Daytona.:D

I'd go wth the Tissot. The TAG Aquaracer is incredibly unimpressive for the price.

I've had a Tissot Seastar 1000 for nearly 2 years now and love it. One of my top 20 go to watches year around. ;)

Here's the deal...a mint, LNIB Tissot Seastar 1000 can be had in the $300 to $350 price range. Locate one and check back here as to the rep of the seller...we'll let you know! Then, spend the rest for golf clubs, but they are totally an individual choice...he should be able to select the brand he wants, model, shaft. etc., and he should be properly fitted for them! There are TAG appreciators...I am not one of them. I consider them primarily a fashion brand. The old Heuers were great!
