While sitting here timing one of my watches I found a watch trivia book I forgot to have.  Here's a few from the presidential trivia section.

1. Which Rolex model is nicknamed the "President"?  This one is easy, but I included it because the reason why was interesting.

2. What brand of watch was JFK wearing when he was assassinated?

3. Why did one US President instruct an aide to "get rid of" a gold Rolex given to him for his birthday?

Answers:

1. The Day-Date.  The watch, which was introduced in 1956, earned the nickname when Rolex gave one to Dwight Eisenhower.

2. A Cartier.  The watch was a gift from Jacqueline Kennedy on the couple's 4th wedding anniversary.

3. President JFK presumably feared that the watch, a gift from Marilyn Monroe, would be construded as evidence of an intimate relationship between them.  Monroe gave Kennedy the watch for his 45th birthday.  The back of the watch was engraved "Jack/With love as always/from/Marilyn/May 29th 1962"  In 2005 the watch, a note describing Kennedy's instructions to get rid of the watch, a box and a love poem Monroe supposedly placed in the box were sold for $120,000.
