Why is the lume on my Black Monster SO much better than any other watch I own? Its nearly comparable to my Raven with Trit. Tubes and is far and away brighter than any other lume watch I own. What is the difference in their lume and why haven't others followed suit? S.

That is Seiko's Lumibrite on the dial. One reason it is brighter is that it is applied thicker than a lot of watches. I find that Superluminova CS-3 formula is as bright when applied in the same manner. Traser tubes aren't nearly as bright as a Monster or a CS-3 lumed watch within the first hour or so, but they are consistently bright. So, as the Seiko begins to fade, you can easily read the Traser tubes. Plus, they don't need any light source to charge.

Thanks for the info. Its truly amazing to me the difference. The Monster is like DAYTIME when others are dim. Their lume is the best reason not to modify a monster, though I do wish it had a sapphire crystal.

The Monster Lumibrite lume helped make the watch a best seller. It also kinda sparked the industry to improve luminous material. The Seiko Monster is the industry benchmark (IMHO) for judging a watch's lume.

That is the only mod I would do to this watch, I agree with you, the lume on this watch is a torch and i just like the whole design. The monster is probably the last seiko that you should worry about sapphire on. I've been banging around with a couple of monsters for a couple of years now and haven't managed to scratch the glass yet. The 007 cased stuff sure, the Sumo absolutely but the monster has a pretty well protected crystal. I've even got a sapphire for my monster but since I haven't scratched the glass yet it is till wrapped up on my workbench!

You're absolutely right Crow, I have mine for about 3 years and they're still scratch free. With that said, if I have to do it one day, it will be sapphire for sure.
