I'm thinking about getting a PVD Csar with either orange or white on the dial.  I'm having a little trouble deciding on the color so I would like to see if anyone can comment on the lume between the orange and white dials.  I've seen a few pictures of the white lume and it looks to be pretty good.  How does the orange lume compare in terms of brightness and longevity?

Also, another question I have is the loudness of the Unitas 6498 movement in this watch.  Is it audible without putting your ear right up to it?  I had a Panerai homage with an Asian hand-winding movement that was loud enough to hear the ticking with the watch on my wrist in a quiet room.  I'd want the Csar to be more quiet than that.

Thanks!

Lume last about the same. The white which is actually a green lume is a tad stronger than the orange.

I've not noticed the movement of mine making noise at all. And love them both. ;)

Thanks for the info.  That certainly helps.  I think I'm leaning toward the white one since it has a bit stronger lume and also it probably opens up more strap possibilities.

I ordered the PVD/white Csar and it arrived today.  Early impression is that it's a very nice watch.  It does tick almost as loudly as the Panerai homage I had (audible to me from about 1 ft from my ear), so I guess that's a characteristic of these Unitas movements. (I have mainly divers, so perhaps their ticking sound is largely masked by their thick casing so I'm not used to louder movements)  The lume is very good, I really like it.  Great strap, although since my wrist is only 6.5", it's just a bit looser than I'd like at the smallest buckle hole.  More strap shopping for me I guess...:P

No, it is not a screw-down crown.

I've been pining for an Airforce Orange for a while now.  The only thing that stopped me was that the 6498 does not hack.  I'm over that now :D .

So I've managed to put together the $$ to buy the Airforce Orange and it's out of stock!!  Which usually seems to be the case when I am ready to buy :P.

So the description of the Airforce Orange on the Debaufre webpage uses the Jedi Mind Trick to get you to look at and consider the Csar Orange.  Well, I guess I have a weak mind....it should arrive this Friday.  I can't wait.  I am also waiting for further instructions from Debaufre  be/c I need someone there to tell me to stop checking the Fedex tracking website and get back to work before I get fired.

But all seriousness aside, I'm grateful to those on this forum who have posted photos and wrist shots of their Csars be/c it helped me to decide.  There is something about an actual photo here rather than on a website that just seems more real....for me anyway.  I get a better idea of what it might look like in person.  Thanks also to those of you who showed off your custom straps and answered my PMs--I will be visiting a few custom strap makers as well.

Cheers,

--Paul

No problem pauliedoggs...cannot wait to see your Orange Csar...please be sure to post up pics when you get it.  I was in the same boat as you in initially wanting an Airforce model which was out of stock...purchased the White PVD Csar (Debaufre surprised me with a PVD movement model for no extra charge) and never looked back!!  I really like the multi-level design of the Csar dial!!!

I especially would like to see what you decide to do on the custom strap front.

I have an orange CSAR and have also had the white lume...and its white hands down!! I found that the white glowed all night and was easily seen and visable..and really thought the orange would be even better but was totally disappointed..the orange looks bright during the day but at night goes dark very quickly and is hard to see unless you stare at it for some time..Hope that helps...If I could chose a new PVD CSAR over again I'd get the white cause reading the time at night is a big deal to me..

Yes, I'm afraid I have to agree with you on the orange lume.  I got the watch Thursday (shipping was extremely fast!).  But, I am very partial to the black and orange multi-level dial.  I will post some pics soon.

Thanks for all the input from everyone!

It's gonna be a little while before I can post any pics of the new Csar.  I had to send it to the Debaufre Service Center for a look-see.  It's running a little fast...on the order of 4 minutes every hour :?

Other than that, I love it.  I have to say that at first I thought I wasn't going to like it because of the strap--it was very stiff.  After working it in some it conformed to my wrist much better.  I also had to pop a couple of new holes in it because my wrist is only 7.25" and the holes on it weren't even close to providing a good fit.

I am definitely going to get a few different straps for it and I've got to find an Allen wrench that fits the socket head machine screws on the lug bars.  I don't know why they only give you one Triton hex tool when you really need two to properly tighten the screws....unless I'm doing something wrong?

I did wear it a bit even though it was running fast.  I was sitting at the kitchen table resting my head in my hands and I could easily hear the watch ticking--cool.  That's something you don't get with a quartz or even a dive watch with a heavy case.

This is also my first hand-wound watch since I was a kid in the mid 70's.  What would be the best frequency for winding it?  Once a day?
