Well, I've named once Technotime in alternance to ETA who will cut them distribution from 2010. I heard about them when reading on another forum. But I invite you to check out the specifications of them movements: The double barrel 120 hours reserve on them is really interesting...hand6.gif http://www.technotime.com

Looks very interesting, and the PR is impressive on that hand cranker movement. I have no problem with Chinese content as long as the final product is QC'd by the Swiss!hand6.gif

It's certainly for the production's cost to be more competitive on the market... But they finish everything in Switzerland apparently. I didn't know about it...

A Chinese part finished by a Swiss guy, is still a Chinese part. Dont get me wrong guys, but i am not excited by a product that is Chinese, whether it be fully or partly made there. They can make a good product sure, but so many years of turning out pure crap, in mass, will take decades to fix their image for me. When a company puts such a movement in their watch, and still wants to charge you the same as the Swiss movement they used before, are you really going to pay? Not me! Anyone remember Nike shoes, and such things back in the late 80's and early 90's,? well i do, and they were great quality then, but i wouldn't buy them now, because they are not, plain and simple. The product is still selling on the back of M, Jordan, and Tiger Woods. But they are Chinese, and it is obvious to me when i have tried a pair on. But they have become cheaper. ETA is NOT cutting distribution of their movements...matter of fact Swatch Group will increase sales and production of eta movements and soon will be all in house as they will no longer be dependant on Schwab-Feller for their mainsprings who make up 50% of all main spring sales....Swatch Group/ETA owns Nivarox-Far which manufactures balance springs and pretty much have a monopoly on them and recently Swatch has opened a 6000m2 facility to take their balance spring knowledge into making maninsprings as well which they have been doing R&D on since 05'hand6.gif

Yes i second your post Oscar. I contacted them via email, and asked what i thought, i already knew, and i was told, not to worry, eta will continue to provide complete movements. In fact considering the above comment, and the post before it, would you really buy a watch with a part Chinese movement in it, when eta will be business as usual? My problem with all this is how does anyone really know? I thought that for a watch to be considered Swiss made it needed to be cased and go through final inspection in Switzerland and that a certain percentage of the work value had to be done in Switzerland. With the difference in labor and overhead cost can a majority of the parts and work be done in Asia and the watch still be labeled Swiss? I thought I understood but lately feeling very confused about this.

As always we as WIS get a little touchy when someone says they are taking our ETAs away... which they aren't and haven't though we have discussed it for years now.:shock: Interesting movement but obviously the services offered by Technotime are not primarily focused on watch movements. And Todd, if I may address your comments I would say none of us are adverse to trying something different or new so long as its asking price reflects what it is... accurately. I would also say given the choice I would almost always go Swiss so long as it is available.;)

Yes i agree with you, i dont mind trying new things, or something different. And like you say, price must reflect it though. Personally, i have many different things still to try, but as for watches, i have already tried Chinese, and to be honest, i have one i am quite fond of. Keeps fantastic time too, but it is worth what i paid for it. 80 pounds, and not a penny more.
