As most know the Boschett Cave Dweller is going to be released with a ETA movement...I have read everything possible between the Miyota and ETA movements. They are both good movements in their own rights. But I still cannot decide what version of the Cave Dweller to purchase and if it is worth the extra $200 for the ETA movement. I was hoping someone has some insight or advise for me.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave here is a way to look at it. Both very good movements and both rock solid. But here is how I would compare the 2 IMHO.

Corvette 2009 (Miyota) vs. Porsche Gemballa 2010 (ETA) ;)

Given a choice, I would say the Swiss movement is well worth the extra coin.

I have both the eta 2824-2 model in dove grey dial, pvd bezel and the pvd/black dial Miyota...both are awesome but the eta will always be more accurate in the long run along with the smoother sweep second and it hacks... I am more of a Swiss movemet WIS...eta's are easily repaired if ever needed and Miyotas which are also well known for longevity are more of a replace me movement due to less expense compared to an eta ...it's just your preference and how much you want to spend as they look identical hand6.gif

oagaspar,

How did you get your hands on the ETA version of the Cave Dweller? I thought they were not released yet?
I am planning on getting the grey face also, unique color I think, but with the SS bezel.

I would go ETA, and the watches were released a few weeks ago...  Owning a few watches with the Miyota MOVT, which is a very, very good affordable engine IMHO, I think it's just not in the same league as the ETA in terms of refinements.  Like Oscar (Ogaspar) said, the sweep of the second hand is also waaaaay smoother than the Miyota, and for me, it's a small detail that would make me spend the extra $$$.  I like smooth sweephearteyes.gif I appreciate hacking capabilities but can easily live without since there is different ways to set the time perfectly on none hacking mechanism...So, to me, if you don't care about a super smooth sweep second hand and the hacking function, go with the Miyota and you will save $$$ and get a watch as fantastic as the one with the ETA.  One thing is for sure, you can't go wrong with this watch, no matter the configuration IMO.    Very good choice  hand6.gif
