Hi Guys

In our constant pursuit of improving our DWATCH, I started to learn more and more about ceramic dials.
There are few pros and cons about them, but the one thing that you can't ignore is there shininess.
I would love to ear your thoughts about it ?

Thank you

Alon Behar

I'm familiar with ceramic cases but not dials. Interested to hear what are the pros and cons of ceramic dials?

there are no cons to a modern day ceramic dial imho and they look awesome....in the past ie: pocket watches they had a tendancy to crack with age but the advancement in ceramics are much higher now and a ceramic dial could last forever without fading or patina with age.hand6.gif

...I would love to see a nice black ceramic dial and black ceramic bezel if possible on the rose gold Stingray case with rose gold hands that was mentioned in another thread!....imho it would be a classy timepiece for sure! yahoo.gif

Depends on how you want to position your watch.

Most of the luxury houses (PP, VC, AP, GP, RX) use polished ceramic dials or polished enamel on their signature pieces. Ceramic adds lots of RTB or "reasons to believe" to support a higher price point and I myself would seriously consider watches with ceramic dials. They have an uncommon sheen, patina and lustre. Now that's luxury ceramic.

O is right. Today's ceramics are super tough viz the ceramics of the horological past.

I have an incoming diver that uses an erect ceramic shroud to  protect an inner titanium bezel, which is already imbued with tensile strength 30% higher than steel. I can't think of anything else that proves that point. Of course, that's industial ceramic, the same stuff used in jet engines.

Hope this helps:)

I have always been a fan of the ceramic/porcelain dials on early US pocket watches, when in pristine condition they look awesome.  The problem with those dials is the hairline cracks, but as Oscar mentioned above this does not happen with the current materials.

Would really love to see a ceramic option on your watches.

Thanks for the replies guys. It was very enlightening. Dial technology certainly has come a long way. I'd assumed that dials were simply brass disks.

Guys

You did it again, great answers.
The risks are quite obvious, but I think with today's material's we can reduce them to minimum.
I love the look of the ceramic dials it really brings a glare to the watch.
So with your help I am starting to work on a ceramic dial to our watches.

Thank you

p.s - if you have any thought's and ideas regarding the dial please let me know.

cheers
