Got this from one of the horological circulars:

"LUXURY Swiss watchmaker Rolex has been robbed of more than 15kg of gold - worth almost E15 million (US$21.83 million) - and a foundry worker has been taken into custody, a judicial official said overnight.
Rolex, whose status-symbol wristwatches cost several thousand dollars apiece, says the employee, a temp, admitted stealing 5kg of gold from the plant in Plan-les-Ouates, the official said.
The man's lawyer, Francois Canonica, said he has been detained and charged with theft and breach of trust, the ATS news agency reported.
"Whether he should be blamed for the extra 10 kilos remains an open question," said the lawyer. "It appears that the security system put in place by Rolex - supposing it has one - has shown its limitations," Mr Canonica said."

Not the first and last time that one man crack down and steal gold after beeing passing it in his hands for years. Banks have the same trouble.
The day they will avoid that is the day when they will only use machines for this kind of job: A man can allways have living or greed problems...
If he's smart: He go to jail for 5kg, shut his mouth, and got the 10kg to live on when he's free....
Still, with the gold price continualy going up, his 10kg will be more worth when he's out: Better than the bank...
But the Rolex watches will go up in price now: Rolex must have it's money back no???

It amazes me they did not have security in place to prevent this homerthinks.gif

Oscar may remember this story, back in the 70's an employee at the Federal Reserve Bank in Cleveland was caught after 10 plus years of walking out of the facility with quarters in his pockets...if i remember right they estimated he walked off with about $15,000 over the years.

I used to do business with them back in those days and had to be in areas where currency and coins were, after that happened they put in new security that made it impossible to walk out of there with something you should not have.

One of the things I still have nightmares about from those days in that building was the currency shredding machine, i would see that thing in operation a couple times per week...it made you sick to see 10's or 100's of thousands of dollars being shredded into tiny pieces.

So a fortune in gold is not that heavy these days, about the weight of a small suitcase, I'm sure I could manage two of those.ROF_Dog.gif
