I was winding some on my watches today, and I saw this weird image, more like a shadow on the dial on a marina militare watch I own. It's a white enamal sterile dial with blue black arabic numerals, Breguet style blued hands and an Asain 6498 movement, with 2nd hand dial at the 6 o'clock position. anyway, I put a magnifying glass to it and it took me a bit to figure out what I was seeing.. Under the 12 o'clock position, was a shadow under the white enamal with horizontal scratches through it, but still a bit raised enough but well painted over with the white enamal I find this: "IWC Schauffhasen" And under that in script is what looks like a signature which I can't make out. Sounds to me like someone was doing a bit of counterfitting, and maybe was getting rid of some dials they couldn't use. picture of watch attached from web site of seller Attachment: mm065photo1.jpg (Downloaded 83 times) Last edited on Sun Mar 20th, 2011 05:39 pm by joecb |

I would be more interested in seeing a picture of your watch showing the covered branding... Certainly you can't be overly surprised to find the very vendors that sell WIS the "sterile" or "generic" homages also dabble in replicas.? Bit of an ethical dilemma isn't it? Well, sometimes it is for me. ![]() At the very least this seems just sloppy.

I will try to take a photo, but not really sure how good it will pick it up, I really don't have a macro camera, just my blackberry It was a surprise in the fact that they did such a deliberate cover up and left so much evidence on the dial. they just scratched at it, didn't bother to sand it. You look at it under normal light and you really don't see it, but under my high intensity desk lamp the "shadow of the raised writing was just visible. I bought it thinking it a legitamate "Homage" nice looker.. no bull with names or anything.. but would not knowingly support any company that engages in counterfitting. If someone wants to try and pick up the dial cover up in a photo, I will send it to them, it cost me only $78.00. Also if you enlarge the image attached, you can actually see an area under the 12 the is almost rectangular and diff. shade As close as I could get with my blackberry, it really does not show too blurry Attachment: 066.jpg (Downloaded 60 times) Last edited on Sun Mar 20th, 2011 09:20 pm by joecb |
