Good read here on Eterna's new Calibre 39, especially in light of the historical connections that Eterna had in starting ETA. http://www.ablogtowatch.com/eterna-calibre-39-watch-movement-valjoux-7750-alternative-and-so-much-more/ Even more interesting due to the fact that Porsche sold Eterna to International Volant Limited of China back in the mid-2011 timeframe. At least for now, it looks like Volant Limited is supporting/leveraging Eterna with what they have done best historically...designing and producing excellently designed and innovative Swiss mechanical calibers (I'm not going to venture what the future will bring). This kind of innovation and excellence is great to see given the current landscape for mechanical movements IMO. ![]() ![]() ![]()

The Spherodrive system was on the ride years before the Chinese take-over as the making up of this movement as said in the article(2007). Been reading about the Spherodrive system some years ago and found it very clever. http://www.eterna.com/en/spherodrive Since this Chinese group is an investor who seems to generally put fonds in hopes of short returns and often selling back(but I'm not in them shoes and who knows what they will do): I'm not surprised that they did let run this movement project to be concretized. It's in them favor. Lately, big brands been focusing on making them own chronograph movements: Breitling, Tag-Heuer... Now Eterna. All because of ETA threats. This movement sounds really good and I bet Eterna with it's great old movement knowledge, been making us a good baby there: No doubt at all. Question is where the 30% of components who will not come from them Swiss plant WILL COME FROM??? Knowing the 50% Swiss-Made law on a watch components provenance and elaboration. Maybe Hangzhou ? Well, maybe I'm sarcastic there but you never know...

Thanks Will. I had the same question as you floating around regarding the 30% of components that are not swiss with this one...but, you have to think that Eterna will not compromise on the quality of this movement which looks very well done IMO.

That really is an attractive movement. I'm not sure I care about the %30 part as long as the quality is there.

I wouldn't consider this movement innovative either, for eterna to return to a column wheel chronograph I would consider it a reproduction piece or historical piece.
