I vote Oris, simply because you are less likely to see someone else wearing the same watch as you. If you can find an older Oris diver (from last year), I recommend that one over the newer Oris simply because the newer ones have less lume on the indices (its not a thin strip instead of the entire index).

I've seen and handled both as CJ had a quartz Seamaster and curretnly has the Oris albeit on rubber. Having said that, his Oris is older and uses the ETA as its base caliber. For me, the Omega while a beautiful high quality piece, lose out because of my preference for automatics. I much prefer the auto version be it with the coaxial movement of an older model. However, if you are looking for quartz you won't be disappointed in any way shape of form with the Omega. Abundant lume, beautiful dial work... sexy case and bracelet. The Oris is extremely well built and operates as smooth as butter. CJ can verify, but I know this is one of his most accurate autos running at damn near chrnometer spec. I haven't seen a new Oris with the reduced lume and the SW200 base, so I cannot comment on its condition. The Oris for me is a bit off the beaten path and is an underrated value. I too am leery of the SW200 movements as I haven't had any actual experience with one and have heard the issues mentioned by Steve. Kind of a conundrum... In all honesty I don't think you can go wrong with either of these...

Just a few observations from my end; the Oris uses a non-standard lug width so you are stuck with their bracelet and straps and I found they charge quite a bit for those rubber straps (the old razor - razorblade story). I had bought mine from someone at the time who couldn't deal with the vanilla scent of the strap (I actually thought it was pleasant). Every watchmaker should be able to service them, however I don't know about availability of spare parts (bezel inlays, gaskets, crowns etc.).![]() Hayek and The Swatch Group are driving Omega as a brand into a different direction. They introduced the co-axial escapement (allowing longer service intervals) while they are building up a service network the way Rolex did to make money on service and have started to cut off watchmakers from spare parts, so consumers will essentially be forced to go to Omega / TSG for service at some point in the future. For the time being, there are still parts in the channel (Ofrei etc.), but that sure will change. Also, Omega has started raising prices to position their watches higher and the TSG is limiting access to movements. From a business perspective, I admire Hayek for the game of chess he is playing here, but as a collector, I am worried about their monopoly. The Seamaster is a very nice watch, but there are issues which Omega tries to keep quiet. The GMT had some issues with the modification for their GMT/hour hand (infamouse "lagging" hour hand) and the Seamaster is notorious for the dials to be replaced during service because the markers (lume material) deteriorated due to moisture. ![]() ![]() If you're not set on a brand name, there are many cool watches around $1K (especially pre-owned) and you might find it's fun to get one, experience it (and learn from it), flip it etc. etc. Sometimes the journey actually is the destination! :) Cheers Matt ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Now you have given me even more options. How is that supposed to help? :) Thanks for the very interesting and thought-provoking response. It does appear that you are a big fan of the Marcello brand given the number of pics. P.S.: Gorgeous pictures

Now that you have enabled us where does one get a red bezel Marcello? I don't see it on their site.

I too have an Oris - It's a great watch... very reliable and exceptionally good looking. In a heads up competition between an auto Oris or an auto Omega, I'd pick the Omega hands down. But, since the Omega you've picked is quartz (and $400 more), I'd go with the Oris I think...

Historically the Omega will hold it's value whether a quartz or auto compared to either the Oris or MarcelloC...I base this on personal experience and observation of the various sales forums over the yearswatch2.gif... so if it's a high end quartz you are longing for and a brand that is readily recognized by WIS and the average Joe I would go with the Omega imhohand6.gif

I think i initially went with the Oris because it was automatic and the Omega wasn't... but from a value standpoint, Omega is far superior - quartz or not.

Man....... :D You guys need to stop with the great pics. Now you have me looking at the Omega Seamaster GMT all hot and bothered almost. Dag blasted enablers. Maybe a cold shower would work for this too. But shoot if I pull the trigger this will have to be a early B-day gift I guess. But still sitting on the fence. Thanks so much for starting this thread.
