I have a 38mm automatic coming from Octo.  It features the hand-winding ETA 2846.

Anything I should be worried about?

Octo is a company that went out of business in the 70's due to the quartz revolution....so what you have there is reproduction.....the eta 2836 is a automatic and although it can be wound it is not referred to as a handwinding movement.......My understanding is that these new ones surfacing are out of Asia using the Asian eta.;) At $129. it is a  good buy and a great looking watch if you are into vintage styles and a smaller case much like the Mido Commander....Enjoy and let us know what you think when you get ithand6.gif

I guess for the price you can't go wrong.  Hopefully the new movement will hold up for a good while.  Nice looking watch though.

Thanks for the reply, but your answers seemed to raise more questions for me and help confirm my ignorance as usual!

1.  What is an Asian ETA?  Is it an ETA copy, or an ETA built in Asia?

2.  Why wouldn't an ETA 2836 be considered a handwinding movement even though it hand winds?

3.  Is a reproduction considered a fake?  Can the quality of this timepiece be confirmed in any way?
