For anyone who knows first generation Gevril watches it will be obvious that something is strange with this one.  If you guessed the dial, you would be right.  According to the last first generation catalogue, all full size dials all used roman numerals.  This is a full size watch and there are Arabic markers, not roman.  The Arabic markers were reserved for ladies and mid size dials.  Also note the box.  Not the wood cube or the leather like 2nd generation packaging.

So, I think I know how this watch happened.  When Gevril was bought by the second owner, (I'm sorry, I forgot his name. I should know it since I have spoken to him on the telephone on several occasions so, please forgive me) the first order of business was to get product that was in stock out to dealers and then to finish watches that were partially complete. Finally they scoured the vault and made up product from parts that were on hand.  This gave then the cash necessary to produce the Sea Cloud and other 2nd generation designs.

This has a very high serial number and was obviously one of those that was made up from parts found in the vault. I suspect that there were dials with no markers and having run out of the roman numerals, the Arabic were substituted, making this watch very rare.  I also seem to remember that this box design was temporary until the new design was ready for use.

Tim Temple, if you read this, please comment and tell me if I am right since you were selling Gevril at that time on the other network. If I am incorrect, please enlighten me.

Anyway, I saw this and had to have it.snoopy1.gif

Thanks everyone. I bought this because it was so rare but, I'm really beginning to like it and expect it to get quite a bit of wrist time. ThumbsUp02.gif
