This one arrived earlier in the month, and I've been meaning to post up my impressions and some pics (including some comparison shots for those familiar with some of the other Seiko Divers. This one is a newer Diver model from Seiko (definitely something a little different from Seiko in the diver line IMO)...a bit of a Flieger/Diver combo and anyone familiar with the Sinn 657 will have to agree there is more than a similarity in appearance here due to the dial design and narrower bezel (3, 6, 9, 12 designators on a Seiko dial?)...like I said something different from Seiko, but so far I really like this one. The dial and overall design makes this one of the most legible and easy to read pieces that I own. Powered by Seiko's 4R15 movement, which is non-handwindable and non-hacking, this movement has been keeping good and consistent time running at ~+7 seconds/day. I like the crown (unsigned, but at this price point...ok, I can live with that) at 4 o'clock and the date position at just past 4. This piece is very comfortable on the wrist mostly due to the relatively recessed caseback which allows the watch to really hug the contour of the wrist, but also has excellent wrist presence due to the 44mm bezel diameter...a very nicely sized piece for those of us with those average sized 7.25" wrists.hand6.gif Case design is a combination of brushed and polished surfaces. Not as beautifully machined or shaped as one of my favorites, the Seiko Sumo, but again...at this price point...ok. This case should be an excellent companion for straps in the future...take a look at the case design at the lugs that will insure "no gap" between the case and strap when integrated...cool!!hand6.gif For those wondering about the bracelet, it integrates nicely with the 20mm lug dimension by design, but flares from 25-26mm at the case down to 20mm at the clasp which gives it some serious presence on the wrist. Bracelet also includes push button safety clasp and integrated diver's extension...also wears very comfortably IMO. hand6.gif Due to the integration piece from the bracelet to the 20mm wide lug point, there is some "bracelet squeek" at that first joint when performing winding manuvers on the wrist...some of my other Seikos have a little bracelet squeek as well, but nothing very noticeable. Oh...the Lume is spectacular as one would expect from a Seiko.hand6.gif ....and overall, I'm really happy with this one. Good review, Chris![]() I think your watch was sort of inspired by this one below, which is classified as a Pilot. This is one of my older Seikos but is now in hibernation and will see some sunshine soon. ![]() If you look at the placement of the date window, almost exact platform of the numbers and hour indeces plus the execution on the hands, I think you'll see the likeness. That's a good watch and I'll have one for my collection in due time. I will hunt it down at the ADs.yahoo.gif Last edited on Sat Mar 20th, 2010 10:04 pm by bigrustypig |

golden, Tony, Jeff, Nick, and Brice...thanks for the kind words and positive comments on the writeup.![]() bigrustypig wrote: Good review, Chris ....and Jeff...always an education when I am so lucky to get to chat with you about timepieces...that "older" Seiko Pilot model that you show above is an absolute likeness to the SRP043 (That is a 4r15 I see printed on the dial isn't it??...I can't quite make it out clearly). It looks like Seiko was definitely doing this dial (and hands) style before the SRP diver's showed up...Thanks for the reference amigo!!!...very cool stuff!!! I had to look the referenced Seiko Pilot up to see that it is the Seiko SRP027...another cool piece and it looks like one that has been out and available since early 2009 (very cool). Thanks for the reference Jeff. ![]() Last edited on Sat Mar 20th, 2010 11:50 pm by stew77 |

Roger that, Chris. 4R15.yahoo.gifNot all my photos are sharp, and for sure some of you in 3T have noticed....I have shaky hands and poor eyesight....caused by high cholesterol, thinning and graying hair ![]() ![]() I got to open my black Sumo (SBDC 001) yesterday and found out the 6R15 movement inside it is a combination of the 7S26 and the venerable 6309. It's not very decorated and polished though (especially the base plate) but the transmission is so familiar. But I'll never open it again. You'll like that puppy of yours, for sure. I just keep hitting your post for the close-up of the winning bezel. Check out it's machining and engineering, Chris, ...the curves and abrupt angles, the scallops and the chiseled flats. Man, I love that watch26.gif. If I chance upon it at the ADs soon, I might pair it with a nice gray Zulu in 5 ring brushed hardware. Or maybe an extreme Nato. I envy you, amigo! Oscar, Jeff, and Chris...thanks for the continued kind words guys!!!![]() I can highly recommend the SRP043 diver without reservation!!! Jeff - no need to apologize for your pics...I think they're great!!!...you and me both have to struggle with the capabilities of a point-and-shoot style camera...you with your canon s90 and me with my canon sd940 (a recent upgrade but still a point-and-shoot). Thanks for the additional comments on the bezel design...absolutely agree!!!!....one of the coolest design features of the SRP043!!!! The curves, scallops, and overall design make it very cool indeed! Also agree that it would look killer on a nice Zulu!!! Hmmm...maybe I'll throw it on one later today!!! ![]()

This is a really nice looking Seiko, but I think I'm drawn to it for its resemblance to the Sinn 757. At a fraction of the cost and with arguably more wrist presence the Seiko is a winner imho. Very nice buy and a worthy stablemate for your other Seikos.![]() ![]() Photo: Noah Fuller
