Yes, I confirm, argon is a gas used to got a neutral environment and avoid corrosion. We use widely nitrogen for the same purposes in the oil industry. As an exemple ,some mechanic pieces arrive on site in nitrogen filled steel cases to be protected of any corrosion during sea travel...
I remember a 12 tons compressor's rotor who arrived under pressurised nitrogen from Italy in a 10 tons case like that...

Was in Indianapolis this past week and was able to handle a Sinn for the first time. Good choice!
