Hey 3T - Here's a review of my new Steinhart Aviation GMT. It came in today from our friend Anders at Gnomon. What can I say about Anders…he's awesome to deal with. I could go on and on about Gnomon, but I don't want to risk sounding like a paid advertisement!!

I really wanted to write something up on this watch, but I realized this is my third write-up on a Steinhart watch!!! I promise, the next review won't be a Steinhart.
This watch is fantastic. When I first saw the design, I immediately fell in love. But I quickly realized that it closely matched my Oris BC4 Chrono and I almost had second thoughts on buying it. The similarities are strikingly similar. To me that's a good thing. The Oris has some pretty sharp edges, while the Steinhart is a little more rounded off. However, the Oris case is more round, while the Steinhart is more square. This may not be obvious or make sense from the photos, you have to experience both in person to see what I mean.

The case is very nice. It's heavy, but not over bearing. It's lighter than my Crux CX-3, but bigger from lug to lug. Overall, I like it. As you can see, it has four 'screws' on top that seem to be keeping the top part of the case attached to the bottom part. This is an interesting design, but I'd question that ability for water and gunk (technical term) to stay out of the case. I won't nitpick this anymore…

The crown is wicked cool. It's very nicely done with the Steinhart logo engraving. The size of it fits the watch very well.

The casebook has an engraving of a propeller and wings. I was actually expecting to see a see-through casebook, but I forgot that it's not. No surprise that I forgot given that I ordered this watch months ago.

The leather strap is nice, but it seems to be fading somewhat quickly. If it does so evenly, it may give it character. At least that's what I'm hoping. The buckle is very nice. It's big and heavy with the Steinhart name engraved.

The movement 2893-2, seems to be very accurate. I set it this morning, and I don't think it's off more than a second. I set it to the same exact time as my Blackberry and it's still sync'd up perfectly.
The dial is two levels. The upper level is primarily for the GMT hand, while the lower level is for the primary hands. It makes it very easy to read the local time as well as what time the GMT hand is set to.

The lume is pretty sweet. The GMT hand shows up much more bright than the photos on either of Steinhart or Gnomon. I'm very pleased with the quality. Excellent legibility in complete darkness.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the watch. Given what this watch sells for, it's an incredible bargain. As I mentioned before, it took quite a while for this to finally ship. Apparently, it's been a bigger hit than Steinhart realized. Hope you enjoyed the review and pics. Let me know if you have any questions!
