....my 3rd Seiko Prospex Marine Master SBDX011, also known as the Darth Tuna

Why did I do something crazy like this? Well honestly, I just can't stop loving this watch for its stealthy looks, heritage, history, profile and technical advances. It's also not common and I haven't seen anybody in all my travels wear this one yet. I've also subjected the 2 earlier arrivals to lots of wear and not a single ding, scratch nor swirl is visible....even with a 5x loupe. Like every member of the Prospex line, this is available for the Japanese domestic market only. Bought from one of The Big Three, it was shipped out from the southernmost city of the Japanese island chain a day after the unfortunate Sendai 9.0 quake in the northeast of Japan.

Made of a cocktail of black ceramic, black titanium, black stainless steel and sapphire glass plus its wrist profile, heft, size and bulk....how could I resist? It doesn't even need an automatic helium escape valve because the builders know no helium will ever enter the case of this 1,000m true diver. This is because the water-resist seals and gaskets are made and installed in a different way.

Here's a picture of my latest arrival with its 2 other brothers. So their nicknames are Porthos, Athos, and Aramis or the Three Musketeers. Soon, D'Artagnan will join them.

My first MM (or Darth Tuna) is fitted with a 22mm PVD mesh while my 2nd one is wearing rugged, durable and ever so soft orange rubber shoes from Isofrane.

Here's the mandatory wrist shot.

And another shot showing it solo. This one arrived Friday last week and spent the weekend in my pocket.

Some vital stats:
Movement: Seiko in-house, 8L35 automatic, hackable; other forums say this is an undecorated and unelaborated Grand Seiko movement with accuracy rivaling COSC watches. Made in Japan.
Water Resist rating: 1,000m
diameter at bezel top: 42.5mm
diameter at the ceramic shroud top: 48mm
diameter of ceramic shroud at bottom/base: 51.5mm
diameter with crown: 55mm
diameter of sapphire crystal (AR coated inside): 32mm
height of watch at bezel top: 17mm
lug width: 22mm
width at buckle end: 22mm
distance lughole to lughole: 38mm
diver's band: expandable polyurethane
buckle: PVD but looks like DLC to me

Review to follow. I'm a very happy WIS. Hope you like this one, too. Thanks for looking.

Hi Jeff my friend !

Big congrats to your newbie ! bravo.gif

The SEIKO Darth Tuna ist one of the greatest watches from SEIKO.
Absolutely unique and incomparable to any other.

Especially the case design is very unique.

I love the shroud of this watch.

The black mesh fits this watch very well. I could not believe it. But I see your pictures. This convinced me.

The orange Isofrane is getting used to.

A ZULU looks at the watch also very good. Try it.

Here is an example of my Golden Tuna.
I love my Golden Tuna...my love.gif
