I have had this Seiko 6309-7040 for a while, but it ran about 10 minutes slow a day. So on one of my trips to my watchmaker I threw it in with some other repairs that needed to be made. He did a full service on it and now it keeps great time. I put it away for a few months, then I saw the "bubble boy" crystal for sale and picked one up. That only magnified the dirty dial that I use to think was cool, but now I wanted to restore it. So I headed to eBay for some 6309 parts: new bezel insert, replacement dial, hands, polished chapter ring, glass case back, rubber gaskets, and that cool vintage rubber bezel guard. The parts arrived this week, so now I have a new watch. Taking it apart I was able to clean each case part before reassembly. I also sand blasted the winding rotor because it was showing its age with some discoloration.
