Received this beauty yesterday and I absolutely love it!

This won't be to everyone's taste, but if we all liked the same....

Omega Speedmaster MKII DLC cal.861

Did a trade for this one and thought it looks so funky I just couldn't resist.

The purists are probably going to be sharpening their pitchforks as we speak, but this isn't the usual badly done DLC, it has been done very well, as my crappy pictures just cannot convey.

The original graining can still be seen and the tops of the sides are polished DLC and look perfect.

This was not a mod that I had done, but bought it like it and from the receipt I have for the work carried out, it was eye-wateringly expensive!

Mark

The main problem on those MKII is that the sunburst polish effect on the case(rising from the dial) is often destroyed and brushed over after the years: It´s often simply brushed around the dial.
So the cool effect is gone as well as the "signature" this watch is known for: The mount-like rising thick case has a better 3D effect with the original sunburst brushing.
I would say that when the case look flat due to a bad brushed job, you might as well modifie it fully to another level.
And why not a DLC coating?
I don´t know about yours and why it was customized like that but I like it: It´s balled.
Omega already produces a DarSideOfTheMoon model: Maybe this will give them some ideas on the MKII remake.
This yellow/black "hornet" MOD is killer.
Enjoy with no shame!

I like what I see.

As a vintage watch person, I never did like the Speedy MK II because of its size and appearance.

This DLC Speedy MK II version should have been released by the factory between 1982-83 as Limited Edition to compete against the IWC Porsche Design Automatic Chronograph in black.

Having said that this watch would not look out of place on the wrists of NATO Fighter Pilots, stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany.
