I had a meeting today in Milwaukee and took the occasion to visit five TJ's in the greater Milwaukee area. Lots of watches in a build up to Father's day. If anyone wants a Gevril like the one I scored I saw several of them in blue, black and white and will be consulting in Milwaukee next week. PM me for details.

They had bunches of LP, Luminox and Sturhling with the odd Bulova and TB tossed in. At store #4 I ran across this bad boy, the Accutron Eagle Pilot's commonly known as the Buzz Aldrin. Here are specs cobbed from gemday.com:

WATCH FEATURES:

  • Swiss Made Multi-Jeweled Quartz Movement
  • Dual Hand Flyback Chronograph

    • Precision Flyback Dual Hand for Unlimited Interval Timing
    • 1/10th Second Subdial
    • 30 Minute Subdial
  • Date display window
  • Tachometer Dial
  • Luminous Hands and Dial Markers
CASE AND BRACELET DESIGN & FEATURES:

  • Apollo 11 Buzz Aldrin Signature Caseback
  • Screw Back Case
  • Screw Down Crown
  • Anti-Reflective Coated Sapphire Glass Crystal
  • 100 meters (330 feet) Water Resistant
  • All Stainless Steel Construction
  • Solid Stainless Steel Bracelet with Push Button Locking Deployment Buckle
DIMENSIONS:

  • Case Diameter is 42 millimeters (with setting crown 44 millimeters)
  • Depth (thickness) is 11.5 millimeters
So I'm not much of a chrono guy and don't wear much quartz, but I had wanted one of these a few years back and couldn't resit the TJ grab and go. This really is a beautiful watch with an off white dial with a subtle basket weave pattern which I have not captured in the Q & Ds which follow... Blued hands and Arabics with red hands at the subdial make for an attractive fascia. A very nice SEL bracelet with half links. All the "RIGHT STUFF".

The caseback is what grabbed me with its Buzz Aldrin sig and dedication to the Apollo 11 Lunar Module Pilot. Makes me feel like a little guy again in awe of those fabled astronauts we saw on TV.

I'm chewing up my impending consulting fees which I use for watch purchases and will need to stay the Hell out of TJs... although I will be back next week to chat up the sales girl and pick up my warranty booklet she left at the register. any possibility she did that on purpose?? HELL NO!! Not sure if its a keeper for me as I have one quartz chrono which I never wear and I am not letting this collect dust. CJ has called dibs as I queried him for advice when faced with the watch. I'm gonna size it wear it and see how it works for me. I have no idea how to work the split secons and flyback functions but have downloaded the directions and have so far managed to set the damn thing!!

Q & Ds:

That's a beautiful watch Pax.  Wish our TJ had models like that.  Love the dial and pushers.

Now that is one stellar looking watch. I like everything about it.

BTW, I haven't seen the word "cobbed" in 20 years or more. :D:D:D
