This is the first real watch purchase for me since I bought my Ball watch in March.  Been in self imposed watch buying moratorium. Well that lasted about 6 months. Thinned much of the herd still have a few pieces that need a good home.

Some may or may not know that I also sold off my SAM (Gibeon meteorite NOMA) and my Ball HC and my Tissot PRS516.

Well I am watching for a  used Ball World Timer. So in the interim I picked  a pair of Luminox's (sayt that fast 3 times).

This is a great alternative to those that don't want to spend the $ or can't afford to drop the cash on a Ball Watch. Now having owned both, while I really miss my Ball Hydrocarbon, it fits the bill in the interim. I bought a pair of Luminox 300 Series Special Forces watches one with a blue dial the other with an anthracite grey dial. Well I really like the blue dial I had planned on returning the one that I liked the least. But Life has been crazy and now I own both versions. Watch the block for a deal on the grey dial.

The Fit and finish is great on this watch, it is not quite on par with the Ball, but it is also a lot less money than a Ball watch. You can see the workmanship on the crown, the bezel and the bracelet. The embossed case back is nice touch and is classier than the screened look that is on lower cost watches.

The bezel has a great ratcheting mechanism - reminds me more of a Seiko (BM) than an Invicta diver. It is smooth, responsive and has a nice report.

The crown is a nice size for the largest of fingers. It has a fantastic, assuring feel when you screw it in, it is precise in the way that it screws down.  It bites the threads just right.

The Bracelet is extremely comfortable as well, it really hugs the wrist much the same way the Ball watch does with the deep lugs, yet it is much thinner than my Ball HC engineer was. Again where the Ball is more expensive and employs screws in the bracelet the Luminox, employs friction pins. The Clasp is embossed/engraved and is nicely finished.

It has a scissor style fold-over safety clasp.  It will fit up to a 9" wrist.

It is nicely packaged as well. It is finished with a nice Luminox moniker in metal plate with a midmsee photos.

Lumination is excellent, and is easy to tell time at a glance day or night. The dial is clean and not to busy with a great contrast.

Nighttime illumination ( Note: time lapse photography used for lume shots)

THE LUMINOX WEBSITE SAYS:

The USAF Special Forces 300 Series Luminox Watch is specifically designed for covert operations and has been supplied to the worlds special forces. The USAF Special Forces 300 Series Luminox Watch comes with tempered scratch resistant mineral glass crystal (K1 - 550-650 Vickers).

Each Luminox watch employs tiny self-powered micro gas lights developed by the world leader in the luminous compound industry. These micro gas lights (borosilicate glass capsules) are installed into the hands, hour markers, and when necessary, bezels of the watches.

As with all of the Luminox watches the USAF Special Forces 300 Series need no external light source to "charge" the dial or hands in order to glow as do conventional luminous watches.
