According to the USPS tracking, my new Tuna Can is in town, whether or not it will make it to my house today is another story. I hope it does, otherwise I'll have to wait until Tuesday!

Since I am forbidden to buy any watches for awhile while we do some house remodeling/painting (guess who gets to swing a brush...blah!) I figured I would go out with a biggie!

I have looked at the Tuna for a long time and always hesitated for 2 reasons:
1. Quartz
2. Return to Japan for battery change

I like quartz watches, so really it was the thought of shipping back to Japan that stopped me every time. One of the guys over on WUS got one, and I hear it is a 5 year battery life. I figure that is pretty darn good, and I had to ship something back to Japan over the summer and it wasn't as big a pain in the neck as I thought it would be. I am pretty used to sending watches out for repair by now anyway (my O&W chrono went to a watchmaker yesterday for a COA). So I jumped on it from a Japanese dealer. The best part is I had "reward points" from Paypal, for $100! It only cost me $335 w/shipping :D

Keeping my fingers crossed that I will have this on later today, sorry for the crummy photo I stole off the web.

Cheers,
Griff

I have been looking at the Tuna for a while now. May have to snag one up soon. I have two questions:

1-what are Paypal reward points and how can i get them?subtlelaugh.gif

2-Why do you have to send it back to Japan for a battery change?

oh and congrats!!hand6.gif

Thanks guys :D

I was just told that I can get a full set of watch tools and the TZ courses for Christmas so I have something to look forward to!

The Tuna is a Japan only model, the US Seiko repair center won't work on Japan only watches.  They have special gaskets that are replaced when they change the battery too.  From what I hear, the Tuna comes with a first battery change free coupon hand6.gif

I got the PayPal points from my summer time watch spree, heheh.  toon1.gif

I actually have two more coming after this, one is a parts watch to finally get my 80's Orient King Diver up and running, and a Citizen auto diver that I don't have, the NH8050 "Dolphin", $100 on the Bay yourock.gif  It will join my Citizen NY2300, NY0040 and NY0054 (and my son's NH8030).  I love those Citizen auto divers, one of the biggest bangs for the buck along with the Mako and 8926 IMHO. That's gonna have to hold me for awhile!  That and repairs, I have a Poljot Sturmie chrono and V-E out for repair to Russia, my O&W 7765 went out yesterday, another Poljot 3133 that has been nothing but trouble, a Seiko 6139 "helmet" that I want to send to Ken Setser, and my wedding present, a Seiko world timer that needs a new movement.  That outta keep me busy!

Cheers,
Griff

P.S.  I want one of those Vostok-Europe '07 Expeditions in Orange like Steve's, maybe if I am real good Santa will slip one in my stocking, lol

Wrist shots:

Comparison shot of my 3 big quartz divers, the Swatch Fun Scuba is bigger than the Zilla or the Tuna!

Cheers,
Griff
