Scepter fuel cans used by US and Canadian military will not be imported for civilian use as of 12-31-08.  They are great cans for anyone that off-roads or needs the very best in durable gas cans.  The cans can be purchased until then and with the exchange rates Americans are getting them for around $60 each shiped.  You can get them from Dave's Surplus in Vancouver I believe link is below.

If you want to put gas in it do not get the ones made for diesel the gaskets will swell and crack the top.  You can however put diesel in the unleaded cans.

The fine for importation after Dec. 31 will be $5,000 per can, so if you have a use for them I would purchase them now.

Any reason why they'll no longer be imported? Or is this something arbitrary?

An update I had 4 unleaded gas cans and 1 unleaded gas spout sipped to my house in Ky and the price shipped in Canadian dollars was $335.15 which was $265.15. US.
