Hey gang, just want to let you in on another possible BS rule of paypal. Just sold an item on the 'bay...recived an e-mail from paypal that my payment is on hold for up to 21 days:shock: See e-mail.

PayPal – The safer, easier way to pay

  • Use your credit card without exposing your card number to merchants.
  • Speed through checkout without stopping to enter your card number or address.
  • Easily send money to family and friends.

Fight fake emails

  • Forward suspicious emails to spoof@paypal.com.
  • Make sure you’re using the latest internet browser.
  • Visit the PayPal Security Center.

NOTICE OF PAYMENT RECEIVED - PLEASE SHIP ITEM

Dear tony duronio,

You've received a payment, detailed below. We’ve placed a temporary hold on the funds for this transaction.

PayPal and eBay are working together to make payments for eBay items even safer. Because we want both buyers and sellers to feel confident about sending and receiving payments through PayPal, we may temporarily hold payments for items sold on eBay.

Make sure to ship the item right away, so you'll have access to the funds sooner. We’ll release the hold in 21 days unless you receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction subject to the hold. We may release the hold earlier if either of the following occurs:
  • The buyer leaves you positive feedback on eBay.
  • We confirm that the item was delivered.* We can confirm delivery if you ship the item with USPS, FedEx, or UPS and either use PayPal shipping labels or upload tracking information from the transaction details page. This applies to transactions within the United States.
Additional hold period

If you receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the

so I check my account and the money is there pending:X but I send a phsishing e-mail to paypal, and they thank me for reporting the problem and it was a bogus e-mail...so WTF???

I'm tempted to tell them to shove it and cancel the deal???

BTW I have 67 transaction and a 100% rating:?

Here is the paypal e-mail??????????????????

Hello Tony Duronio,

Thanks for forwarding that suspicious-looking email. You're right - it
was a phishing attempt, and we're working on stopping the fraud. By
reporting the problem, you've made a difference!

Identity thieves try to trick you into revealing your password or other
personal information through phishing emails and fake websites. To learn
more about online safety, click "Security Center" on any PayPal webpage.

Every email counts. When you forward suspicious-looking emails to
spoof@paypal.com, you help keep yourself and others safe from identity
theft.

Your account security is very important to us, so we appreciate your
extra effort.

Thanks,

PayPal

Tony, I don't know if your beef is with PayPal if you got a phishing email. Isn't that sent by some other unscrupulous ass?? :XI assume you don't really have a hold on the funds?

I agree with Pax...seems the buyer put the hold on your funds until he receives the item ....but then I have never sold anything on the Bay:?

I sell a lot on eBay, I have 12 items ending today and tomorrow.

The only time I see a hold on a payment is if the buyer is new to PayPal or if they are using an eCheck and do not have the funds in their PayPal account.  the holds on these type transactions are only for 4 - 7 days, never heard of a 21 day hold.

When this happens I never ship until the funds clear, I would think that would be a standard practice.

Tony, go by what it says in your PayPal account summary, it will tell you exactly if there is a hold and what it is for.

I have seen several phishing emails both claiming to be PayPal or eBay....it's amazing how creative these jerks are and how "official" the emails look.  One way to help verify if it's legit or not is any real email will have your real name in it (John Smith) not your eBay handle.  This is not a for sure test if it is real or not, I never put it past these guys to find your real name.

Thanks Nick....the hold seems to be a security feature. the funds do appear in my account but held/pending. As stated above the only criteria for them holding this payment is I have less than 100 transaction.

The buyer supposedly has over 1200 transcations.

Not sure what to do but I'm leaning to sending the money back and cancelling the transaction.

Seems odd, Tony. Why would they put a hold on his funds? Who cares how many transactions you have? Is that eBay transactions or PayPal? Whatever happens you are under no obligation to ship jack until the funds clear.

When I sold the Kobold on the bay, Paypal placed a pending-hold status on my transaction stating on large $$$ trans they would not release the funds until the buyer replied in the feedback section (Bay) he received the watch, or they wanted the usps tracking, so they could see, it was delivered.

I went to Paypal "DETAILS" of the transaction, where it explained.  I also called the Paypal cust-ser and they explained it to me.  They stated It's to protect the seller and buyer.  Once the buyer who purchased the Kobold placed a positive feedback, I contacted Paypal immediately, so they could get right on it.

I did a search on PayPal, they posted an amendment to their users agreement in March 2008 that says at their discretion they can put a hold on funds for up to 21 days if they feel there is any kind of risk with the transaction.  Not sure if they feal the risk is on your side Tony or the buyers, i guess it's possible that the buyer has had some questionable transactions....who knows.

As they said in the email the hold can be lifted if the buyer leaves you positive feedback....I would try that, ask him to leave you positive feedback.

Not sure what would happen if you canceled the entire transaction...I'm sure both eBay and PayPal would give you some grief over that.....what you could do is say you dropped the item and broke it when you were packing it and it can not be repaired...that might work.

Now that I'm thinking about it a couple months ago i bought a piece of Cherokee pottery from a pretty well known artist that my wife collects...it was kind of a rare piece and it sold really cheap, the seller sent me an email and said she broke it while packing...she probably got a better offer offline  crap.gif
