Although I have no dog in this fight, I do like to stir the pot. It won't be long until we have a BCS champion. Using the poll, please indicate who you think will win tonight's game.

I have to go with my Big 10 Brethren and am prepared to be blasted by the master of logic... Spock!!

Of course you do, as the cold has a chilling effect on the mind..............As I said before, I don't think anyone can beat Ohio State, but then I didn't think USC would humiliate Michigan, Boise State didn't stand a chance against mighty Oklahoma, Florida State made UCLA look like a 3rd world contender, and.....................well, let's just say there is hope!

Gator basketball, anyone.............?

Well, at least we know what a Gator is, but what the hell is a "buckeye"..............oh yeh, it's a fruit in the form of a nut! toon1.gif  So, in the name of 3T "bipartisonship"...........GO NUTS!....or, is it, GO FRUITS? smile8.gif

Description of the Ohio Buckeye Seed Nut: The seed nut is glossy and chestnut-brown in color. It is velvety smooth to the touch with a lighter circular “eye.” It is contained in a spiny, two-inch hull and is set in five palmately compound, five inch long, deciduous leaflets. The leaf formation has been described as “praying hands” by poet Albrecht Duerer. The seeds and bark are slightly poisonous and bitter tasting. The properties can be eliminated by heating and leaching.

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Playing in a bowl is no longer reward enough for some college football players: Some Buckeyes and Gators want a cut of the millions being generated by the championship game.

"We all deserve more money," Ohio State senior guard T.J. Downing said. "We're the reason this money's coming in. We're the guys out there sacrificing our bodies. We're taking years off our lives out here hitting each other, and we're not being compensated."

Instead, players from top-ranked Ohio State and No. 2 Florida received portable satellite radios and commemorative wristwatches, first-class meals and VIP treatment at posh resorts.

"I've got to admit, sometimes I look in my hand and look in their hand," Florida defensive tackle Joe Cohen said, referring to the Bowl Championship Series. "I believe players should get a little bit more than what they're getting. I don't want to sound like I'm greedy. It's just reality.

"I believe players should be paid -- because I'm broke."

Schools make million of $ off of their primary sports teams, not only on Bowl appearances but on game tickets, concessions, clothing and memprabilia sales, shoe contracts, uniform contracts, stadium advertising, broadcast rights, etc...........I firmly believe that the player's primary reward is a shot at the BIG SHOW, and that their talents are specifically "showcased" in Bowl Games.

That said, I believe that along with athletic scholarships, players should be given  (paid) an allotment for personal expenses since they, and their families, are barred from favors in the forms of cash and jobs from alumni, etc (and rightfully so).  But just giving someone a "tuition, books, fees, room and board" scholarship, does not give them all of the necessities of life.  I also believe that the University should provide disability income and health insurance for injuries incurred while participating in sports so that the playes have some hedge against life effecting injuries.

As a follow up to Ken, the communities make HUGE $$ of this event and the others like it. The last time OSU played Miami for the title it generated something like 225 million dollars for Tempe and the surrounding area.

This year with the Insight Bowl, the hugely successful Feista Bowl and now the BCS bowl, I would have to think we're pushing 400 to 500 million dollars.

That money in no way benefits the players or the Universities, but it gives you an idea of the money involved in these bowl games.

An interesting article and analysis on tonights game.  BTW, it's a chance for Ohio State to break an 0-7 run against the SEC.
