Hello Fellas... I got a job offer from one of the IT Consulting firms in California and I'm just wondering about the cost of living there like the house rental for 1-2 bedroom apartment, income tax, other taxes and etc. I've been travelling in the US (East area) for project assignements only so all my expenses are company paid. Hopefully you guys can shed some light regarding this matter. Thanks in advance.... Regards, Nando

Thanks for your reponse Sean and Ken. I truly appreciate it. I thought NY is the most expensive place to live in the U.S. as I was assigned/work there for a year and found it too expensive to live in. Do you guys know the mininum salary that I should consider to survive in L.A.? I am married and soon to be a dad.

canadajo wrote: R U JOKING ??? IT IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE PLACE TO LIVE IN THE U.S. I thought Boston held that dubious honor?? L.A. is pretty pricey too so the real question is, how do you want to live? Do you want to live well or just get by?

Just a simple living should be fine. Renting or leasing a 1-2 BR apartment and a car. Saving a little for future and my watch fetish;)

You could try this site: http://www.bankrate.com/brm/movecalc.asp You pick the city you are in (or lived in), your annual salary there, and the city you are moving to, and it'll tell you the equivalent. This site does the same type of thing: http://cgi.money.cnn.com/tools/costofliving/costofliving.html Best of luck, you couldn't pay me enough to live in LA! Truly! Between the smog, traffic, crime, and Californians, I'd rather live in Phx and commute every morning! But that's just me, everything is a means to an end, I supppose. David

Back when I was in Gardena Ca. A mexican knocked me off my bike and tried to beat me up with a Snickers candybar. Glad I had my helmet on. Its a crazy place to be.

Thanks David and 3Ters... My wife and I decided to accept the offer after negotiating a bit on the compensation package. I've already submitted all the required docs for the H1B visa application. I am coming back to the land of milk and honey for good:) Cyah!!!

The smog here is terrible lately, traffic is at a standstill after 3 PM on the 101 highway and there is crime on the local news every night. Las Vegas and the Phoenix area are two of the fastest growing cities in the country. Its nuts.

Congratulations to Nando for landing a job and coming back to the U.S. L.A. may be some of the things people suggested, but at least you don't have to shovel snow! :D
