I just saw this on the web site....(So does this mean there are no buyer options on the Series 2 models?)

Availability
The Megalodon 2 is being produced in a Limited Edition of 150 pieces. The Megalodon 2 will be available exclusively on this web page when they are finished and ready to ship. To stay informed about the new designs and availability of the Series 2, please sign up with your email address on our news blog page. We will post messages on the blog about the Megalodon 2 and other future Benarus information.

When I get the final list of specs from the factory, I will publish the dial colors and case finishes that are being produced. We are possibly producing the following dial colors (under the teeth)... orange, yellow, deep black, black carbon, blue carbon, red carbon. The case finishes will be blasted, brushed, polished, and PVD... but all this is still subject to change.

The watches will be for sale on the megalodon web page when the production is finished, and after they are shipped to me, then I can give final quality control testing and inspection, make sure all the parts are in the box, then I can photograph them for the website, and I can ship them the same day they are purchased and know that they are 100% good to go.

The messages will be posted on the blog when the web page opens for business and right now all 150 are still available, nothing is pre sold.

Good to hear there are more Mega's on the way.

I am a little disappointed to hear there will be no custom orders available. I think that is a big part of the appeal of the Benarus line.

Oh well...it is what it is.

I am going to try and explain that from our experience the pre order system in the past has been very challenging for us, and we have run into problems that result in a customer getting a refund and not the watch they wanted.

If "customer A" chooses a dial, case finish, and specific LE number, then the watch has something wrong with it, or it is scratched, or anything... then I have no replacement for that watch or that LE number and the customer is disappointed and takes a refund and walks away with a bad experience. This has happened more than once, and that is too many times in my book. At the factory some of the special orders have not been correctly executed and they do not want us to have all the special requests to begin with.

We will continue to make variations and custom watches in the series but in groups of 10 or more, or less, so you will still be able to purchase a unique watch... say PVD case, red carbon dial, black hands... but there may only be 10 of them. Then I will be able to sell them after I inspect them and if something is wrong with 1 of them I still have 9 to offer. And at that point the watch ships and all the extras and accessories are with it and I know if is as it should be.

another part of this issue is taking preorder money through Paypal, it is against their rules and we do not have a clear solution for this problem yet.

I am open to ideas people might have, but you have to understand that we see and work through all these problems on a daily basis and have discussed how we can eliminate some of them so the customer has the best and most fair experience possible.

With the Megalodon 1, we shipped from the factory, with no final QC... it was a choice of faith in the factory that I don't think was a good choice, some of the watches were dirty, the presentation was sub-par with the watches wrapped in plastic paper that did not look so good, some leather straps were missing, spring bars were missing, I had the warranty cards and cloths in the US.. so after all the shipping, I had to deal with a number of small but important QC issues, refunds, replacements, shipping some watches back to the factory... requesting extra links from the factory, taking inventory on what everyone was missing, packing and shipping out the missing parts, then getting the links a few weeks later... packing and shipping out the links.

This experience made us realize that all the watches and extras need to be built and shipped to one place, and there we can inspect them and prepare them to be sold online.

Again, the shift is to provide better QC and customer service, and we will try to accommodate everyone the best we can. We are changing things one direction, but we are small and can change to any direction that makes sense at a given time.

- Steve

Thanks for the response Steve. I cannot imagine the difficulties you faced in delivering the Megalodons. I got at least 3 different packages from you regarding my two Megalodons.

My suggestion is that all custom orders are final sale and prepaid. I purchase allot of custom items and this is the norm on these type of purchases. If the watch is damaged then you will have to put that back on the factory. I would lay that out prior to the sale of the custom order.

Please don't get me wrong on my comments. I love my Benarus watches. ( I have 9 of them currently.). I just think the custom order ability of your watches is one of the main reasons you guys have such a following. I would hate for you to lose that.

Makes a lot of sense Steve, if you had so many problems.

If you know it shipped out correctly you then know what the customer received.

I want to be flexible and I am thinking about another solution that I will just throw out there...

Just an idea at this point

1. I will publish the list of design combinations here on 3T and on the website.

2. I will take "reservations" on specific designs, but not a specific LE number (through email only, not a PM or a posts)

3. I will not sell them out before they arrive because then there is no wiggle room if one of the watches is not 100% so I will leave 2 of each design un "reserved".

4. when they arrive, I can contact the person who has reserved, collect full payment, and ship immediately.

5. Then the remaining Megs will sell on the website after the reservations have shipped.

How does this sound???

We are producing many combinations for Meg 2 that will be unique and very limited, so the customizing is still being done on our part ahead of time with the factory and more organized than the random ways of the past.. so we are still producing custom... actually even more custom for this Meg 2 than say the Sea Devil, Barracuda, Worldiver, or Meg 1
