I was just wondering if I could hear some input on what the actual inspiration is for the Moray case. Is it a panerai model? Does the moray have original design elements or is it a homage? BTW. Cannot wait to here that the Moray IIs are ready to ship. I hope it's any day now.

The Moray case is similar in size because it is 44mm and so is some of the Panerai cases. But we are using a cushion case which is a different shape from a Panerai case. The inspiration for the Moray came from older vintage divers that are no longer in production, like this Sandoz. But the Sandoz diver is a 38mm case with 18mm lugs.

Thanks steve. I didn't realize that Sandoz ever made a model like that. Was that dial their design, or was it commonly used in similar cases by other manufacturers?

I do not know much about this original sandoz, other than it is old and difficult to even find images and info on it. Maybe others can help. Ralf knows more about it.

These are great watches. The same case was used by Austin, Nivada, and Orient among others, I'm sure.

True. back in the day, 38mm was sort of the standard for the diver. All you have to do is look back at the Seikos of the day, particularly the 007s and 009s. Their relatively smaller sizes were very popular back then. I like this very clean profile. Such a serious-looking diver.
