Every time I seat a crown and stem i bung up the keyless works, back out comes the movement and dial off go the hands and dial, take apart the keyless reset all the fricken levers and sheite, back together it goes, back goes the dial, and hands, back in the case and another try at installing a crown and stem and if the planets are not aligned correctly and I don't make just the right funny looking face while installing the crown and stem I get to start all over again... worst design in history, the engineers at eterna should be strung up on light poles for designing this and aholes at swatch should follow them immediately for not changing the design when they bought it! 2892's don't have this problem, nobody elses movements are this fragile while installing a stem, I can't freaking wait for the Japanese to finally drive the last nail in the coffin of swiss watch making and put them out of my misery for good!  I feel a little bit better now... I'll come back and vent some more later if I have to reset the keyless works again!

been there Chris,got one of my fave watches that has to be serviced for this problem...funny how when I tout the 289x series of eta there are those who still believe the 2824 is supreme...never cared for the 2836,and I would rather have a 2894 than a 7750,but I still prefer Swiss movements over most Japanese movements,although they have come a long way with the ability to hack and wind!

Oscar it's easy to love swiss watches when you don't have to work on them! I don't know if you have had much opportunity to play with the 7750 but it's been my experience that it is an amazingly stable and durable movement and one of the easiest to make run within chronometer spec's and for long periods of time with little deviation and with little maintenance. I haven't found anything else out there like it. I have a 7750 that doesn't deviate by more than 2 seconds in a month and has run this way for years! I haven't warmed up to the 2894 yet, still waiting for a chronograph design from the ground up and the 2894 is an evolved version of the 2892+soropod chronograph module. I don't dislike it but if I have a choice I might choose something else... I also haven't owned the 2894 yet so my experience is limited to drooling at somebody elses watch! Anyway one nice thing about all these new miyota 9015 powered watches is that the ETA 2892 will interchange with it (movement geometry is the same, dial feet, hand sizes are different) so I see some interesting custom builds in the future!

guess I know how you feel, Cris. Years ago I tried my luck on a simple Seiko 5. I ended up taking it back to the watch guy who put it back together for me. I can imagine how much more challenging a chronograph can be.

Enjoyed your post! I have been tinkering with these engines for years - without much success, I might add! Anyway, I suppose with hindsight there is always room for improvement with designs. After all, the industrial designers aren't the ones working on the watches ultimately! I'm also quite a stickler for the Swiss machines, although the ruggedness and simplicity of many of the Japanese movements simply have to impress you. Almost like the army days: our Belgian made FN rifles were quite sensitive to mud and grime, while the Kalashnikofs kept on working, regardless of zero maintenance and/or neglect!
