For example, in the firearms industry, cast frames are avoided in favor of forged frames, with the exception of Ruger, who seems to have the investment casting process down pat.  In the knife industry, affectionados dispute the merits of forged blade versus blades formed through the stock removal method.

I wonder if some of the lower cost brands are casting, then polished their cases, while the higher priced brands ae machining their cases from forged blocks of steel.  The same question could apply to bezels. 

I ask the question because I was examining some macro photos of a popular but lower cost case where it look like it had been cast.  The hard to reach area of the csae, where polishing was difficult, still looked like a rough casting.

Any insights?
