Not sure what kind of budget you're targetting, but a Bathys 100 Fathom or Aquaculture are sub 42mm dials with BIG numbers and should be tough enough. I've been thinking about picking one of my dad for the same reason -- can't see the dial on his current watch without holding his arm far away...poor guy is running out of arm. :P
