No, the hands move both ways. In fact, the way you change the date is to run the hands around to midnight thus changing the date and turn the hands back to 8P.M. and then forward to mid night again advancing the date. Repeat this operation until the desired date and then set the hands to correct time. It sounds complicated but is really quite fast. The old Seiko 7006 movements set the day wheel the same way.
You are correct. Except that with the Poljot's (HAND WIND MODELS) I have, you turn the hour hand until the date changes and continue to say 1:00 AM. Then you turn the hour hand counter clockwise until it reaches about 11:00 PM. Then turn clockwise past midnight to 1:00 AM again and repeat until you reach the desired date.
The Vostok-Euro automatic movements operate as you stated. Don't know about the Poljot autos as all of my Poljots are manual wind.
