IMHO, it would be hard to tell based on the picture and without inspecting the watch if this watch were a fake. Believe me, I have even seen $40 Seikos being faked and even G-Shocks being faked in Shanghai and Shenzen. What I usally initially do is surf the sites and see pictures to determine if a model like this was actually produced. If there is no history at all, I'd be very skeptical already. For your info, I have seen Panerais faked with Lange & Sohne designs and the Portuguese made to look like something else.  

If you are travelling, take the watch with you and take it to a much bigger dealer for an opinion. That might be the best way to seek closure on this issue.
