We all have different MOTIVES for collecting these babies of ours. Some, like me, want to pass on a part of ourselves to our sons via the watches we hand down or pass on. Or we also assemble watches to mark certain events in our lives, present and past. And that's me too. Some collect to define their lifestyle. Others do it for the pure fun of it.
For sure, depending on our individual financial situations at various stages in our lives, the MEANS dictate the character of the on-going collection, as well as the pace of accumulation. The collector's/enthusiast's personality simply defines the width or depth of the choice of timepieces.
OPPORTUNITY is closely linked to MEANS. The shorter the distance between these 2, the faster the MOTIVE is satisfied. And then the hunt for the next watch begins.
I can't say how many watches I have but the highlight brands/flagships of my collection are quite noble. All my watches are pretty well-spread out and stored in 3 bank vaults among the countries I travel to frequently. It always gives me great joy to shake or crank those that I choose to wear for a certain period.
Like many of you who have undergone lifestyle shifts, I am now beguiled and seduced by sportier watches in the 44mm to 48mm range. Anything below 40mm/42mm hardly ever sees the time of day. I guess Nabco and I feel the same about this. Even the underrated Seiko minor lines (S26/S36 movements) are catching my attention now. After all, the brand reminds me so much of my youth when tipsy, inebriated and generous uncles would slap their old reliable Seikos onto my wrist.
In the end, we will all wrinkle, age and move on. We might even forget where our watches are. But meantime, we have fun while the sun shines.
