I'm back from the oven they call Vegas. I don't care what they say about 'dry heat'; stick your head in an oven, that's dry heat too!!!

The show was great. Met lots of interesting people, saw lots of interesting watches. On to the good stuff... where to begin?

(before I begin, I'd like to make a disclaimer that I have no vested interest with the following vendors, except maybe sell some of their products. Just because I write something below doesn't mean I'll be carrying them)

Well, probably one of the highlights was meeting with Torgoen, and the brand's founder. I've never played touch-feely with a Torgeon. They are super nice; great looks, high legibility. I saw the yet to be released T6 / E6B flight computer watch complete with dual time zones. I'll probably be adding Torgoen to my offerings.

An interesting watch I saw was the QuadTec (http://www.quadtec.us). A novel way of displaying digital time. I met the inventor (Fredi Brodmann) and patent holder - super guy (as are most people in the industry).

The coolness award (as an Engineer myself) has to be the binary display watch 01   (http://www.timetechnology.com). You sure will confuse the heck out of anybody who stares at your wrist. I like the one on the home page (and for about $100, what a steal!!!!)

As I posted the other day, I saw the new Vostok Europe GMT watch (the limo). They are still in pre-production, but I saw the pre-pro models. Nice striking faces, with fully independent 24hr hand. Many of you probably know (or have heard) of Frank Spar from Moskow. I got to hook up with many of the big hitters in the VE market (Frank Spar, Igor (owner of VE), and others). Look for great things from them this year, including the Volmax (Poljot) lineup, like a new 'bullhead' chrono. Awesome.

How about Firefly (Triad) ? Ever heard of them? You may have seen them in some of the watch mag's. They have 3 LED's that light up the dial, then a second push turns it into a flashlight (really). It has a separate charger that charges through induction, so there's no cables to attach. Nifty.

Another cool watch was the Abacus. Tells time with one magnetic ball. Again, another novel way to tell time!

A personal favorite of mine was Yes watches. Anybody own one? I got to use one first hand, and see the multiple functions it does. All it doesn't do is the dishes! And, I met the inventor (you may have seen him on snbc) Bjorn Kartomten. Totally normal, outgoing guy. The real deal. Anyway, the watch doesn't disappoint (http://www.yeswatch.com).

Lastly, on the Asian watch front, there's some upcoming items that demand some lip service. First off, the Asian tourbillon's are amazing. You can take one over to the Pierre Kunz booth, compare them side by side, and you can see why people are snatching them up. What a deal! Cool to watch the action take place. And coming out late this fall is the Asian copy of the Poljot 3133 movement. Butter smooth movement, nice pushbutton action, and inexpensive again. You'll probably see them in watches costing from 200 to 300.

Well, that's all for now (or at least what I can remember). It's a shame it's not a public show. And its mostly a Jewelry show; only 5 to 10% is watches (you should see all the stones and gold  - holy schmoly).

Its good to be back in NY just in time for a Nor'Easter. Still raining. . .

Attached is a pic too! Guess where we stayed
