 The Sub Aqua was definately a 2004 model.  As far as the Abyss goes.....  I can't tell.  The diamond encrusted version was introduced in 2004.  The press release reads like this.

The massive 44mm ABYSS 1000 AUTOMATIC with its ETA 2824-2 automatic movement and 3 different dial colors is a
limited edition of 99 pieces, now brilliantly covered with hand set, bright white diamonds in a manner that makes it
irresistible to the discerning luxury buyer. Sure to be a unique attention getter wherever they are displayed, these
watches fully deserve the "awesome" label in all their various diamond executions. They are priced up to $25,000.

The word "now" makes me think there was a previous version without diamonds.  I also found a dealer site selling the regular Abyss.  The Abyss page had been updated in Feb 2004.  Which would lead you to believe that it was presented prior to that date.  However, All the places that have some for sell on ebay refer to them as 2005.

So I will chalk it up to another manufacturing mystery.  Since I have no idea.  I will kindly take back my knock off remark.  I thought it was before.  Although I could definately be wrong.
