To me, a tool watch (either diver's, pilot's, chronos...) should first be extremely legible in any light conditions, should be overbuilt for it's main function(s). Diver's watch are a good example. Very, very few diver's get close to 200m while diving so forget getting even close to 1000m!  Since the bathycasphe Trieste set a record of 35000 feet in 1938, mankind never went back that deep. There is presently no submarine that I know that can go deeper than 1000 feet + -, and that doesn't stop companies like Swiss Army and their CX12000 or Rolex DeepSea (Mmmmmmm!hearteyes.gif), Bell & Ross and others to push the limits.

Then, if it can be beautiful, why not? One of my favorite tool watch is the Marathon J-SAR.  Built like a tank, amazing lume, clean and easy to read dial, huge bezel with a lot of grip, very precise movement, water resistant to 300m .  I do not dive but I do  snorkel and the deepest I go is about 50 feet so 1000ft subtlelaugh.gif...  On top of that it's a beautiful watch and it's very well finished.  Actually I'm wearing this watch today with a suit and i love it! ( I know some will say it's a sin to wear such a beast with a suit but...)

If i damage a watch while in the water or at work?  Well, each time i hit one of my watches, my hart stops.  So it could be a $200 watch or a $4000 one that it would not change a thing for me.  I hate damaging my watches no mater how much they cost and this will not stop me from wearing them, just makes me more meticulous with them. Tool doesn't mean ''Come on, beat me up badly!yourock.gif''  tool mean  '' If you beat me, i can take it woohoo.gif''

So in conclusion, for me to call
a watch ''Tool Watch'' It has to meet the following criteria:

-Overbuilt for functions
-Solid construction
-Relyable
-Extremely ledgible day/night
-precise in any conditions (-40c to +40c)
-There is no price range, can be $50 or $200000
-and please, it as to look nice in it's own way ;)
