Maybe not under 1K but for just a little more the Debaufre Esqueleto is a fine choice http://store.debaufre.com/Esqueleto-Limited-Edition-p/es-dw.20.08le.htm
I absolutely love my #1 Esqueleto. 6498 Unitas Hand Wind movement keeps very good time. I seem to reset this watch less than some other high end watches I own. It started out as a loud ticking movement but after a few weeks, its really toned down and not nearly as noisy as when it was new. I've gotten many nice compliments on this watch. Nice large size too, 47mm. I'm tired of certain companies saying in print that Large Watches are only a fad. Umm, sorry to tell you but my almost 8 in wrist doesn't agree with that. 42-48mm is nice for me.

I'd say go for one.I'm not a huge skeleton fan but the Debaufre was such a good value I didn't pass it up and now they are going to have another release of an updated version. Time to save.
