Leaving for the 91st consecutive Big Red One annual Reunion tomorrow morning. It is a time of year when I get to be with other veterans who shared common experiences in uncommon times. I get to stand among the few remaining heroes that stormed the beaches at Tripoli, Sicily and Normandy...these are the men who spearheaded every amphibious invasion in the European Theater....hitting the deadliest beaches at Omaha and scaling impossible cliffs for you and me. I get to talk and touch the men I fought with in Vietnam...veterans of Bandido Charlie who served under me...my 1st SGT, platoon sergeants, my command track driver, my RTO, et al. These men, the true heroes of my life get a chance to be young and relive the most exciting time of their lives...I am privileged to walk among them. I'll be back late Monday...and hope to hook up with the infamous Tony D while I am there...in the mean time, take a listen...the Last Firebase! http://namtour.com/firebase.html
