Most women I know don't really care much about watches much less whether it's quartz, auto or cranking. They most usually match their watch to their jewelry for the day (or week) meaning the more watches they have, and the more versatile their ability to "blend" with their jewelry, the better for them. Maybe this explains why roughly 80% to 90% of women's watches are quartzies. Patek, Cartier and Omega are just a few of the brands that offer more quartz variants for women than they do autos. Patek's signature line for women is their "24".

My wife only likes watches because of my love for watches. She can't understand why I fuss about them a lot. She wears automatics now because I "confiscated" her quartzies many years ago.

On size, I think 40mm is the biggest that majority of women would tolerate. Not only is it big and heavy for them but a big watch gets in the way of many things they do at home. Maybe a watch coming in at 32mm would be the biggest many would consider at all.;)
