They are very handsome watches! Anyone's high watch prices are a function of people's willingness to pay more than inherent worth of materials(*). So you have to decide for yourself if it is worth it or not. I have heard you can find them for sale used, online for half (or less) the MSRP, so while I can't comment on "value" of them as new, I love their look, and they appear to be well made. They are also (mostly) made in the US which may be worth something to some people. I will say for the same price range as them, you can purchase of a watch with an entirely in-house movement from other watch makers - which is worth checking out. But at the end of the day, if you want a Kobold watch, you would be best getting one if you can afford it. I personally love their design, and plan to add one one day to my small but growing collection but I find them rather puzzling expensive, too. (*) I think it is also helpful to compare Kobold to higher end watchmakers for reference. While they are not a "manufacture" - and buy their watch movements rather than make them - I think they are positioning themselves as a competitor of Rolex for the people who appreciate the Rolex but want something a little bit different but more rugged. I htink it is helpful to compare them to Sinn. And for an example on how expensive watches can get you can look at Jaeger LeCOultre, Blancpain and Patek Phillipe - and those 3 houses are not in the same league as Kobold, realize that Kobold isn't trying to price compete with them.
