some of the best news out of Basel this year and in Swiss watchmaking is the race to develop new calibers that will replace the eta 2892 and Val.7750 which are used by most brands and Breitling,Longines and Tissot are leading the way in developing these new engines...many of the high end brands already have in house engines powering their watches due to the fact that ETA will only be delivering finished movements from 2011...ETA has been reducing the number of blanks they were selling since 2002 and will be completely out of that business by the end of 2010 leaving many watch companies looking for alterantive engines because as I mentioned they relied on ETA for the ebauches to build their own calibers on hand6.gif
