The K version is made in Asia. The J version is made in Japan.

From what I learned from my research some time back, there is a US$20 higher inspection cost for the J version in Japan.

In my opinion, paying US$80 more for the J version viz the K version is not worth it. Personally, based on all my experience on Seikos, there is very, very little difference on quality particularly because Seiko is fiercely committed to quality and value. I have Seikos that date back to 1978 and they still work almost as good as new.
