Screw pins/drilled lugs can be a matter of life/death for a professional diver working deep.

I'm on-shore mostly but I understand the point of the divers who work on oil-rigs.

I am not a diver ... so I am curious - while I agree that drilled lugs are a lot sturdier and would be less prone to breaking - I am trying to understand what would happen if the pins broke or fell out? (I was alarmed about the life/death thing, but couldn't figure out if it was hyperbole or simple fact. And if fact, what would the danger be? I am not trying to be inflammatory, I am genuinely curious - as on a trek losing a compass or GPS could make it much more dangerous if you had trouble reckoning via sun or stars - esp. if it was overcast and night)

The one-way turning bezel or bezel lock-system is to prevent depht accidents due to shortage of air supply or aclimatation stages on differents dephts on the way up.
If you watch loose-up and make a dive on it's own: There is no timing possibility around you and you may have troubles when coming up.
That's what I've been told: I repeat, I'm not a professional diver and I never dived with bottles. Only free diving.
