Many years ago I had a Vietnam-issue Timex and as a teen back then, suffered some scratches on it. My dad told me to remove the scratches with some toothpaste and an old T-shirt. I think it worked. I haven't tried it on any of my watches ever since though. Mineral glass responds to very mild abrasives and that's the reason they're usually used on milspecs so that it'll be easy in the field to work on the problem.
