I agree a pilot's watch would be best. Having actually read your requirements my suggestion would be any of the DeBaufre big pilots which seem to be readily available on the secondary market. The are 46mm or 48mm. I had a very nice Revue Thommen 55mm pilot which I sold and that would have been just ideal. The DeBaufre CSARS are also highly legible imho.
